Our 2020 report showcases the engagement and voting activity we undertook in our mission to build sustainable capital markets and maximize value for our clients.
March 2021
Climate risk is an increasingly important focus for investors everywhere. Long a key part of our core focus, in 2020 we elevated our focus on climate still further, engaging extensively and launching a number of new initiatives to further our campaign.
In 2019 we created an engagement and voting screen that leverages R-Factor, our proprietary scoring system. R-Factor measures the performance of a company’s business operations and governance as it relates to financially material and industry-specific ESG risk factors, as defined by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB).
Companies are continuing to respond to our call and adding women to the highest positions of their organizations. With our Fearless Girl campaign playing no small part, today there is global focus on the value of diversity in the boardrooms.
Each year, State Street Global Advisors engages with investee companies such as yours about issues of importance to investors that we will be focusing on in the coming months. We do so for a simple reason: as one of the world’s largest investment managers we have a fiduciary responsibility to our clients to maximize the probability of attractive long-term returns.
Diversity, equity and inclusion. They’re important aspirations for all of us. But in the daily grind of Corporate America, there is also another side to these issues that often gets lost: their positive impact on corporate performance.

Our asset stewardship program is focused on identifying issues that impact long-term performance. Across the world, we’re using our voice and our vote to effect change.
