Research Focus

SSgA is committed to investing in proprietary research to maintain and enhance our existing strategies and support new product development efforts. Our Advanced Research Center (ARC) develops complex quantitative models for our investment teams and clients across all asset classes. Sales and Relationship ManagementConsultative Partnerships Seeking Investment Excellence

The Sales and Relationship Management teams at SSgA are dedicated to building strategic partnerships with our clients and prospects. We have a diverse client base within the institutional, sub-advised and intermediary businesses, and our years of experience as an institutional asset manager provide us with industry insight into the challenges our clients face. We use this experience to provide innovative investment services to clients.

Our teams are organized by client-type. Relationship Managers and the Sales team marshal the firm's resources to provide clients and prospects with the best that SSgA has to offer. This includes keeping clients updated on account activity and investment strategies, providing market insight and thought leadership, and coordinating all client requests. Our teams bring a high level of investment knowledge, experience, and energy to working with clients to help them solve their investment challenges. Professional Business AdministrationSupporting Investment Excellence

SSgA's Professional Business Administration team is the global foundation for our sales, distribution and investment management groups. It includes investment operations, information technology and interactive information management, and ensures that SSgA's complex network of investment functions operate smoothly and efficiently across multiple time zones and investment regions. The Professional Business Administration team uses an advanced technology platform that provides both scale and competitive advantage to support SSgA professionals worldwide. The legal, compliance, risk management and finance groups strive to ensure that SSgA's investment solutions conform to the highest standards of oversight and risk transparency. Operations Excellence

InternshipsLearning from Leaders

What We Offer

SSgA's internship program gives motivated students an opportunity to work with some of SSgA's subject matter experts in global asset management. Undergraduate and graduate interns gain hands-on experience and assume real responsibility in a variety of business areas. The program is an excellent introduction to the day-to-day workings of one of the world's largest institutional asset managers1 at a time of rapidly changing markets and investment innovations. Many of our successful interns have returned as full-time employees upon completing their degrees.

What We Seek

Advances in financial engineering have made investment management a highly sophisticated and intellectually challenging field. SSgA's internship program is one way to develop that talent. We are looking for students with a knowledge of and/or interest in financial services who have demonstrated strong academic performance and intellectual curiosity.

Fostering Skill, Instilling a Global Mindset

Our internships allow students to develop a variety of professional skills and valuable industry contacts. As a global organization, we pursue a diverse workforce that reflects a variety of skill sets, backgrounds and interests. We regard education and training as a business-critical mission and provide a number of in-house opportunities for global, multilingual development.

How the Internships Work

The application process for our summer internships begins in January. Interested students are invited to contact us and submit an application. To apply for an internship, you must be matriculated in a college/university of higher learning. Students selected for this program are assigned to a team in a business area that suits their interests and talents. These areas may include:

  • Sales and Marketing
  • Investment Management
  • Legal and Compliance
  • Human Resources
  • Research (SSgA's Advanced Research Center)
  • Operations
  • Information Technology

Interns work closely with managers to develop skills based on business needs and goals, and are encouraged to proactively seek additional projects and responsibilities in order to deepen contacts with SSgA staff and fellow interns. In addition, we host a number of events to educate interns about investment management, the financial services industry in general and SSgA in particular. At the start of the program, SSgA holds an introductory breakfast, which gives interns a chance to meet senior management and learn more about the organization.

Since networking is an integral part of the program, we also offer weekly luncheons at which interns can meet SSgA staff from across the organization. For graduating seniors, we invite a leading career management firm to discuss important steps in job searches and career planning. The program concludes with a reception for interns and their managers with the most senior members of SSgA management, the Executive Management Group. This is an excellent opportunity to share experiences and hear about future employment possibilities.
